First story on DotComKu
The story of DotComKu!

Who?

My name is Sugih Sutjiono, an avid fan of the World Wide Web, born and living in Indonesia. I had the opportunity of living in Singapore and also in Australia, and traveled to quite a few places in Asia. As per now, I have not stepped in America nor Europe, and I’m really looking forward to go to those places. From the travels that I’ve done, I got to experience and understand more about the different places I’ve been to. But the Web gave me even information more about the world and beyond! Since I started using the Internet back in college, I’ve become sort of an Information addict, and the internet was my cure!

What?
“DotComKu” means “my dot com” in Indonesian language. DotComKu.com is basically a collection of Dot Com stories by Dot Com owners, and I hope to collect as many Dot Com stories as possible. My idea for this site came about after reading website reviews on magazines and newspapers, and thinking that the reviews were sometimes biased, sometimes did not have any interviews with the site owner, and I also wanted more insights from the site owners/creators. So I thought a site filled with Behind the scene stories of a website from the owner/creator’s perspective would be interesting and could also be inspiring, so here it is!

Why?
Simple… Curiosity is why! I am impressed by many websites out there in the WWW… The creative ideas, designs, function and purpose of the sites… I’m also definitely impressed by how sites are kept up and running. I have had a hard time starting a blog, and its even harder to keep it going. So my drive to start DotComKu is to hear directly from Dot Com owners about their sites and their experiences setting up and running the site, and what keeps them going.

When?
DotComKu was registered in March 2009. Since registration, I have tried setting up the site a number of times, with many changes in ideas along the way as well.. The idea started out with DotComKu being a directory of Indonesian websites. But then I thought I’d rather introduce Indonesian based sites to the world, and who better to tell the world about a site than the owner/creator.. Then why just Indonesian sites when I could just get rid of borders and get Dot Com stories from all around! So now my quest for Dot Com stories begins!

Where?
dotcomkumap I’m based in Jakarta, Indonesia, but with regards to DotComKu, I’m hoping there will be Dot Com stories from all over the world to share on the site.

How?
Well.. The start wasn’t too hard.. just getting the ideas right.. finally getting down to creating the site and getting it up and running took a while! As I don’t have any real coding skills, no IT education background, choosing what platform to set up the site on and how to actually do it took a while. I was looking at directory scripts initially, then after finalizing on the change in the idea, I decided on WordPress! Its as simple as it gets with WordPress, especially after I got the Thesis theme.. It really is less coding and do more! My day job is dealing with mining operations and also running a motorcycle dealership, so the Internet only comes whenever I’m free.. So I’m usually in my room, on my bed..sugihroom2 My wife would comment at times… but she is my biggest supporter!.. actually she’s also the one who keeps asking me when the site is gonna be done :D , Thank you D! dandi

Message to the world?
If I could start DotComKu, anyone can start their own website! I hope the stories that are going to be on this site could inspire even more great Dot Coms!
Don’t go Duplicating, Start Creating!
Enjoy DotComKu!
